I’ve had only a little time to thrift store shop lately due to subbing commitments and hostessing duties. (Had a nice visit from my sister and niece!) I did find some cool stuff, though. And I'll start with this fixer-upper piece bought at a GW.
Pretty rough, huh? But the
tray (which is quite large, by the way, at about 18 in. x 18 in.) was made by Åry Fanérprodukter
in Sweden, according to the info on the bottom. It looked like teak to me, and it was priced at $2.96, so I thought it was worth a try. I took it home and applied some Skydd wood oil that I'd just bought the week before at IKEA, and (voilà) it was transformed.
According to my research,
this piece is probably vintage 1950s. I am pleased.
And this is the cool logo
on the back.
At the same GW, I found this
mid-century magazine rack (which, as I’ve noted before, I cannot help but
collect). My favorite detail on this one is the little spirally thing on the
handle—a fun, space-agey accent.
My recent Pyrex good fortune continued when I found
this casserole dish (475) and lid for $3.99. The lid is chipped on the
corner of one of the handles, but I think I’ll be able to buff it smooth so
that it won’t cut me. This Butterfly Gold pattern is one of the two patterns
that Pyrex redesigned and produced between 1979 and 1981. (The other was Spring
Blossom Green.) Though Pyrex used the original name for the newer
pattern, folks refer to it as Butterfly Gold 1979 Redesign, in order to
differentiate it from the original. (I found an original Butterfly Gold mixing bowl just a couple of weeks ago.) And, of course, I learned all of this about the redesign from my hand-dandy copy of Pyrex Passion.
I will admit, though, that the blinking bulb is a bit annoying. I'll have to change that sucker out next year.
I call these crinkle juice glasses, because I don't know the real name. I also don't know who produced them, but I've seen Libbey mentioned online. I see the iced tea size often around here, and I pass them up. But when I see the juice glasses, I get them. (They're so stinkin' cute!) My Florida Mamaw used to have some of these, by the way.
See how they look with the others I've found over the past couple of years? The blue ones are my faves.
I also found this vintage souvenir glass. Gotta love a Carolina Blue Massachusetts.
And, last, another Starbucks mug. (God help me; I hope these will sell on Ebay.) This one is a humongo 20 ounces, and it's part of the 2006 City Mug collector series. And I know you can't read the entire name here, but it says "Sidney." It cost me 50 cents.
Thanks to Sir Thrift-a-Lot, a living space, and We Call it Olde Link-Up for the opportunity to link up.
I hope all y'all are finding fun stuff. That is all.
